redistricting

A committee is being formed that will evaluate redistricting for elementary students in Christiansburg. Specifically, the committee will look at the best options to relieve overcrowding at Christiansburg Primary School and Christiansburg Elementary School. Currently, CPS has a K-5 enrollment of 470 and a capacity of 396. CES serves grades 3-5 and has an enrollment of 460, with capacity for 366.

The expansion at Falling Branch Elementary School has created space for some students to move from CPS/CES to Falling Branch. A new school to replace Belview Elementary School will be built large enough to accommodate up to half of the students at CPS and CES. These efforts combined will alleviate the overcrowding at CPS and CES, while still allowing room for growth at all schools.

The committee will evaluate options and make a recommendation to the School Board. There will be opportunities for public input to the committee and to the School Board. A website with additional information about the process is available online at http://www.mcps.org/redistrict. Anyone may sign up to receive updates about the process through a form on the website.
